The Auto Expo 2016 at Delhi has been witness to the unveiling of a unique vehicle from Honda – Honda Navi. This cross between a motorcycle and a scooter fuses both design cues to arrive at its present avant garde form. Honda Navi variants come in three trims, namely Street, Adventure and Off-road sporting respective price tags of Rs.39,500, Rs.44,500 and Rs.49,500 (all Ex Showroom, Delhi), respectively. The size of the bike has been kept smaller for better fuel efficiency and handling, and sports dimensions of 1805mm in length, 748mm in width, 1039mm in height and 1286mm in wheelbase. The design cues and features of Honda Navi veer more towards Honda Activa scooter with a telescopic fork suspension at the front wheels and a spring loaded hydraulic type suspension at the rear wheels cushioning the shocks offered by the surface. The bike cum scooter employs 130mm drum brakes on its wheels to bring it to a complete halt.
Unveiled to woo the young audience, Honda Navi colours wear five shades of Patriot Red, Hooper Green, Shasta White, Sparky Orange and Black. Wholly designed and developed in its Indian unit, Honda Navi proffers many customisation options for customers to suit their varied requirements or preferences. Structurally, Honda Navi has been made into a sturdy vehicle that can traverse on any kind of terrain courtesy its 156mm of ground clearance and rigid alloy wheels – notwithstanding the smaller size of the wheels (90/90-12 & 90/100-10 at the front and rear). Moreover, the light weight vehicle (kerb weight of 101Kg and a fuel tank of 3.8 litres capacity) will be easy to manoeuvre, especially by the targeted audience who would look at this vehicle as a stepping stone to a real bike.
HONDA NAVI ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
Honda Navi runs on an 110cc single cylinder four stroke air cooled SI petrol drive train. The drive train incorporates Honda Eco Technology or HET to yield a maximum power of 7.83hp at 7000rpm and a peak torque of 8.96Nm at rev speeds of 5500rpm. The engine is mated to a V-matic automatic transmission gearbox unit that will provide a steady cruising speed.
